What I think about Internet marketing
Some things never change.
The Internet, and marketing on it, is not one of these things.
But, still, marketing is marketing. If you’re putting your marketing message on the Internet or on a billboard – you need to get the right message to the right people at the right time.
When everything available to market yourself online becomes overwhelming, don’t forget the basics. All the newest tips and tricks aren’t going to get you anywhere without a solid marketing plan.
Yet, even with a really great idea and plan, if you can’t keep up with your competitors and get your idea in front of your audience, you still can’t win.
Combine some tricks with a solid marketing plan – and you just might have a magical combination.
Why I think it
Armed with a degree in plain old advertising and PR and boring old management, as well as some experience with magazines and ad agencies, I left college thinking only about traditional marketing
Then, the Internet came and slapped me in the face. It threw search engines and pay per click advertising and blogs and social media and… so much more… at me.
I still love a creative print ad, but there’s no denying the Internet is where we’re all spending most of our time.
While the places we hang out online may change, the fact that we’re hanging out online isn’t going to change.
So what’s a marketer to do? Embrace the Internet, but don’t forget the basics.
